Music on My Mind
As I've said before, I'm a bit behind over here in You're Up. Radio in Holland is more than just crap, it's stinky, ate-something-bad-off-the-street, dog crap. Radio is much better in France and Germany. Actually really good in Germany.
The other day I tripped over something interesting called Podington Bear. Some guy in Portland is anonymously churning out 3 free songs a week on his podcast. I haven't listened to all of them, but what I have heard is really interesting -- mellow, instrumental blips that are perfect for background music while working or reading. I am sometimes too distracted by song lyrics to listen to music all day. I like.
And this video by Peter, Bjorn and John is in rotation on MTV Europe and The Box. Don't judge me. Video channels actually play videos here. Except last night when we got sucked into a show on MTV about teens with Tourette's. Dude.
Anyway, I love the ugly cartoony look of this video, and I'm always a sucker for whistling. I guess these guys were at the 9:30 Club in D.C. not too long ago. Any good live? Is this totally mainstream, and I'm completely losing any credibility I have b/c I'm confessing interest in corporate drivel? I have no doubt you'll let me know.
Oh and speaking of Germany... I'm heading to Berlin next week. I know at least one of you has been there. Tips will be appreciated.

Don't worry about your love affair with corporate drivel. Last time I checked it wasn't a sin.
Brandenburg Gate is another awe-inspiring spectacle. Ah...here's one I was able find the English translation for.
